Advanced Biologic Treatments for Psoriasis and Eczema
Over the last few years, numerous biologic drugs such as Humira, Enbrel, Stelara, Otezla, and Taltz have been approved to treat difficult to control cases of psoriasis and now eczema as well. These advances allow for the targeting of specific immune responses in the body responsible for causing these chronic and debilitating conditions. If you have found the treatment offered for your psoriasis or eczema unsatisfactory, make a consultation appointment with a provider at Dermatology Associates to determine if any of these therapies are appropriate for you and your clinical situation.
Fast-Acting Relief with XTRAC Excimer Laser Therapy
The XTRAC laser is an exciting new treatment for psoriasis. It is designed to provide fast, effective relief from dry, itchy, and unsightly psoriasis lesions. The XTRAC laser can treat psoriasis lesions quickly and effectively. The laser concentrates a specific wavelength of light directly on the psoriasis lesion. This delivers the high doses necessary for rapid clearing right to the exact lesion spot. Treatments are fast and easy, and most patients feel no pain or discomfort during the quick laser sessions. Positive results can be obtained in as few as ten treatment sessions, and remissions can last several months or more. The XTRAC laser is perfect for individuals who have tried topical treatments, oral medications, injections, and traditional phototherapy and have areas not responding to those treatments. The XTRAC laser is generally covered by Medicare and most major insurance plans.
I could not have had a better experience. A quick diagnosis made with knowledge and experience helped calm my nerves. This was my second visit , but with a different issue. I will not hesitate to return for any future problems.
Blu-U Photodynamic Therapy for Precancerous Skin Conditions
Blue light PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT) is performed in conjunction with a topical application of ALA, or Levulan (aminolevulinic acid) to treat precancerous lesions called actinic keratoses. PDT delivers specific wavelengths of intense light to the skin. Once delivered, the targeted tissue absorbs the light’s energy which effectively destroys sun-damaged skin, pre-cancers, and even some types of skin cancers. This will result in skin having a more youthful appearance.
Before treatment, ALA is applied and allowed to sit on the skin for an hour. You will then be placed under the BLU-light for 15 minutes. You may experience some mild to moderate stinging during the treatment and mild to moderate redness, blistering, and scabbing afterward. This will decrease over the next several days. You may resume normal activities immediately. However, patients must avoid all bright light sources and minimize direct sun exposure for 48 hours after treatment to lessen these reactions. Treatments are covered by most insurance companies.
Your Dermatology Special Services will be performed by the Dermatology Associates team in Tinley Park.
